Cheer up it’s Monday

WS Translations congratulates Adam Rowe, the winner of Dave’s funniest joke of the Edinburgh #fringe: "Working at the Jobcentre has to be a tense job – knowing that if you get fired, you still have to come in the next day." Sometimes idiomatic and comedic language works and other times it doesn’t. The divide between the U.K. and Europe is not as wide as you think, certainly where humour is concerned as this article from the New York Times illustrates.

For all the concerns over losing its position in the pecking order of European official languages can still English hold its own when it come to humour by virtue of its diverse vocabulary. As an example: ‘Two cats decide to have a race across the English Channel. The English cat is called one, two, three and the French cat is called un, deux, trois. Which cat won? Why the English cat of course… because un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq.’
